Best Buy sets 10-day Black Friday sale, halts rival price matches

Best Buy will run its Black Friday sale for 10 days, from Thursday, Nov. 19, through Saturday, Nov. 28. During the holiday rush, the electronics chain will also suspend its usual practice of matching competitors' prices.

In normal times, Best Buy matches prices at rivals including Amazon, Costco, The Home Depot, Target and Walmart. This season, it will not match official Black Friday deals at other stores. It also won't match any item on sale elsewhere from the Thursday before Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, whether or not the discount carries a Black Friday label.

That leaves shoppers who spot a lower price at a competitor after buying at Best Buy with one option: return the item and repurchase it elsewhere.

Best Buy will still honor its own markdowns. Under its Holiday Price Match Guarantee, anyone who buys an item there through Dec. 31 can get the difference refunded if Best Buy later lowers the price. Requests can be made online or in stores.

The guarantee excludes holiday decorations, phones and other devices activated under a third-party contract, and nonreturnable goods such as trading cards, gift cards and e-bikes. Items from third-party marketplace sellers are also ineligible.

Some discounts start early. Best Buy is releasing batches of early Black Friday deals and doorbusters on Nov. 6 and Nov. 13. Items with its Black Friday Deal badge come in limited quantities with no rainchecks, and the company warns that sold-out products may stay unavailable through Black Friday.

Stores will be closed on Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, a policy Best Buy has followed since 2020. The company has not announced its Black Friday opening time. Last year, stores opened at 6 a.m. local time.

Most Black Friday offers will be available on Best Buy's website. The company says a small number of deals are usually reserved for shoppers who visit a physical store.

Paid members of the My Best Buy Plus and Total tiers will earn double points from Nov. 19 to Dec. 6. Most purchases made through Dec. 31 can be returned or exchanged until Jan. 15, 2027, or until Jan. 31 for those members. Holiday decor has a 14-day return window, and activatable devices have 15 days.

After the main sale, Best Buy plans a Cyber Sunday and Monday event on Nov. 29 and 30, followed by Cyber Week deals from Dec. 1 to 6 and a Last-Minute Savings Event from Dec. 18 to 24.

The promotions arrive as a global memory crisis has pushed prices on many popular tech gifts well above their usual levels.
