Gunfire over the Halloween weekend killed four people in Dallas and left more dead and wounded near college campuses in Alabama, Illinois, Colorado, Delaware, Indiana and Arkansas. The worst toll came in Dallas's Deep Ellum entertainment district, where police said 15 people were hurt.
Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said investigators had not determined whether three Saturday night shootings, spread over roughly an hour and 15 minutes, were connected or what set them off. He said some people were arrested but gave no number or charges. The department had added officers in the district beforehand, and none were injured.
We are interviewing some individuals right now that we have arrested, still trying to figure out exactly how it ties into all the shootings out here.

Violence after the Magic City Classic
In Birmingham, Alabama, Mayor Randall Woodfin said one person died and eight were hurt in two shootings near Legion Field on Saturday night, after Alabama A&M beat Alabama State 31-28 before nearly 70,000 fans at the Magic City Classic. Police Chief Michael Pickett said most of the crowd had already left the stadium grounds, and the first shooting broke out where vendors had set up along Graymont Avenue.
Police spokesperson De'Rell Freeman said one person was detained and several weapons were recovered. Accounts of the wounded differ: authorities initially described one victim as critical and seven as stable, while fire officials listed two in critical condition on Sunday.
Students killed in Illinois and Colorado
In Bloomington, Illinois, a 19-year-old woman was killed and another woman critically wounded in a shooting near Illinois Wesleyan University shortly before 1:25 a.m. Sunday. Six other people suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, and the ATF's Chicago office said it is helping investigate.
In Boulder, Colorado, two 19-year-old University of Colorado Boulder students were shot inside a home on University Hill just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday. One died at the hospital and the other remains in critical condition.
Officers had visited the same house earlier that night over a noise complaint, citing residents for a nuisance party that then broke up. Detectives believe a group later tried to push into the home before shots were fired; they have interviewed about 20 witnesses and released photos of two persons of interest.
My heart breaks for the victims and for everyone impacted by this senseless violence.
Steve Redfearn, Boulder police chief
More campuses hit
Near the University of Delaware in Newark, six people were shot Saturday night and taken to hospitals, Newark police Lt. Greg D'Elia said, though their conditions were not released. Part of Main Street was shut for hours, and university President Laura Carlson urged the campus to keep the victims in mind.
In Bloomington, Indiana, officers watching a large crowd near Indiana University heard gunfire around 1:30 a.m. and saw a man running with a firearm. He was arrested near Dunn Meadow, but police said it is unclear whether he fired any shots.
In Fayetteville, Arkansas, six people were hospitalized after a shooting early Sunday near the University of Arkansas. Police said an altercation appears to have preceded it, and no one has been arrested.
The weekend violence followed shootings Friday at Spirit Halloween stores in Fairfield, California, and Madison Heights, Michigan, that killed two people.
