An attacker stabbed a 28-year-old woman several times in the neck as she ran along the Shore Parkway Greenway in Brooklyn on Friday night, leaving her in critical condition, and the New York Police Department has not identified a suspect.
The attack happened around 8 p.m. in the Bath Beach neighborhood, near Shore Parkway and Bay 17th Street, police said. She was heading east on the path, which overlooks Gravesend Bay.
Emergency crews took her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. A police spokesperson said Saturday that she was still alive. Her name has not been released.
Investigators have not said what led to the stabbing or whether she knew the person who attacked her.
New York Road Runners, which organizes Sunday's New York City Marathon, said its records show she has run in its races. The group could not confirm whether she planned to take part in the marathon.
