Perplexity launches teammates AI agents for Max subscribers

Perplexity has rolled out teammates, a set of personal AI agents meant to carry out ongoing work on their own with little supervision. For now, only customers paying $200 a month for its Perplexity Max plan can use them.

The agents live inside Perplexity Computer, the company's cloud-based agentic assistant that handles multi-step tasks. Perplexity says teammates build on Computer and add capabilities aimed at ongoing, large-scale work.

Users can assign each teammate a separate role or task, and the agents work on those assignments at the same time. They cooperate with one another, and some can manage other teammates to keep tasks on track.

As users pile on more work, the agents can recruit additional teammates and plan what the newcomers will do.

Teammates run in the background 24/7 and alert users when a decision is needed.

Each agent gets its own entry in Computer's sidebar, showing what it is working on and what it has completed. From those threads, users can hand off more work, redirect an agent or ask for a status update.

The feature is available to Max subscribers on the web and on iOS. The plan costs $200 a month or $2,000 a year, a steep price for access to the agents.
